The Australian Government has thanked the Alice Springs Town Council for allowing the ongoing use of an existing facility for the Redtails Pinktails AFL, netball and softball teams.
“Through the Australian Government’s Community Development Grants program, the Central Australian Football Club were funded $500,000 towards a Sports Development Centre for the Redtails Pinktails Right Tracks program,” Senator for Northern Territory, Dr Sam McMahon, said.
“Land identified for the centre is no longer available so a new home of the Redtails Pinktails Right Tracks program will be refurbished and brought up to a high standard for players, coaches, staff and volunteers.
“The upgrade and refurbishment of this sports facility will continue to help address social issues in Central Australia while supporting the development of sporting pathways for grassroots players and champions of the future.
“I’m pleased the Redtails Pinktails Right Tracks program will continue unhindered for people in the Alice Springs region and across Central Australia in quality, refurbished facilities.”
Minister Colbeck said the Australian Government approved the request for a change of use of the funding awarded under the Community Development Grants program to enable the refurbishment of the existing Alice Springs facility.
“It means young men and women in Alice Springs and the region will soon enjoy upgraded sporting facilities while getting the support they need socially, physically, mentally and emotionally through sport, education, job ready programs and leadership opportunities,” Minister Colbeck said.
Redtails Pinktails Right Track program is a collaboration of the Central Australian Football Club, Central Australian Aboriginal Congress and the Australian Drug Foundation
The objective of the Community Development Grants Program is to improve local community sport infrastructure to encourage greater levels of participation in community sport and physical activity.
